U.S. reportedly weighs 'mother of all bombs' for Iran strikes

The U.S. military is reportedly considering the use of the GBU-43/B 'mother of all bombs' as part of potential strike options against Iran. Tensions remain high following regional maritime incidents and attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Why it matters
The potential deployment of high-yield conventional weaponry against Iran signals a significant escalation in geopolitical tensions and military posturing.
The U.S. military has drawn up options for renewed strikes on Iran that include the potential use of one of the biggest nonnuclear bombs in its arsenal, CNN reported Thursday , as Tehran vowed to continue fighting for its demands.
The strike plans involve the possible use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, nicknamed the "mother of all bombs," CNN reported, citing multiple U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
CNBC has not independently confirmed the report. An official told CNBC the Defense Department "plans for a wide range of operational scenarios to execute Presidential and Secretary level direction and to ensure mission success in any operational environment."
