U.S. Justice Department assembles force to shield against foreign AI threats

The U.S. Department of Justice has established a 'Super Intelligence Task Force' to monitor and prosecute threats related to AI, following a directive from the Trump administration. This move signals a shift in federal focus, as the administration prioritizes AI oversight over previous crypto-related policy initiatives.
Why it matters
The creation of this task force highlights the growing federal emphasis on AI security and the potential for increased regulatory scrutiny of companies developing or deploying advanced AI systems.
Reflecting President Donald Trump's directive that the federal government call AI by the name "super intelligence" or SI, the DOJ is standing up the Super Intelligence Task Force to complement the work of the existing SI Force led by Jay Clayton .
Attorney General Todd Blanche said the DOJ's effort will "ensure critical SI technologies serve the American people and are not manipulated by bad actors at home or abroad."
"The Department of Justice will continue identifying and prosecuting individuals whose use of SI violates the law, including by maliciously targeting American taxpayers, critical U.S. infrastructure, or other aspects of our national security,” Blanche said in a statement.
