U.S. President Donald Trump signed executive orders that will ban several Canadian imports, including certain alcohols, dairy and motorcycles, the White House announced Tuesday.
The move comes hours after Trump said he would direct American agencies to block Canada from access to U.S. contracts.
Early Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney warned Canadians of tough times ahead after retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods took effect just after midnight. Trump’s 50 per cent tariffs on nearly $28 billion worth of Canadian products came into force after trade talks between Ottawa and Washington broke down last month.
Drawing from the list of products being tariffed by the U.S., the Canadian counter-tariffs target roughly 700 American imports, including dairy, plywood and sunscreen.
