Why it matters
This demonstrates government disaster relief mechanisms and the use of direct benefit transfers to mitigate the economic impact of climate-related crop loss on the agricultural sector.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday (October 13, 2026) transferred financial assistance of ₹493 crores to the bank accounts of 9.18 lakh farmers affected by floods, excessive rainfall, hailstorms and cyclones. “Over the past week, crops have suffered extensive damage across the State. There have also been casualties and loss of livestock at several places. Within just eight to 10 days, the double-engine government has made arrangements to provide compensation to our food providers, farmers, for damage to their crops, houses and livestock,” said Mr. Adityanath, in Gorakhpur.
