Tyler Adams announced as USMNT's new captain under Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino has named Tyler Adams as the new captain of the United States men’s national soccer team. The move marks a strategic reset for the team as they prepare for the 2030 World Cup cycle.
Why it matters
Leadership changes in national sports teams often signal shifts in team culture and long-term tactical direction.
The United States men’s national team has a new captain, and it’s likely no surprise that Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams has been named to the post.
Mauricio Pochettino made the announcement on Friday ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Mexico in Glendale, Arizona.
“It’s so happy to announce, and for everyone to know, that he’s going to be our leader and our captain,” Pochettino said, via a statement on ussoccer.org . “He’s the player and the person that can lead the period that we have ahead.”
Adams captained the USMNT under Gregg Berhalter at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but Tim Ream took the armband in this summer’s tournament.
