These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding child safety and building regulation enforcement in urban and rural Kenyan environments.
A two-year-old boy has died after he was found in a biodigester pit within his family’s compound in Kianjai, Tigania West, Meru County.
Police said the child was discovered by his mother on Thursday, October 22, after he went missing at about 1pm.
According to police, the boy was found in a pit about three feet deep along Kianjai Kamoja Road.
Police officers documented the scene before retrieving the child’s body.
The body was later transferred to Cool Breeze Mortuary in Meru, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police said preliminary findings indicated that the boy had ventured to the pit alone. They said investigations would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
