A college student and a school student were assaulted in two separate incidents reported in rural areas of Madurai district over their love affairs on Tuesday evening.
In the first incident, N. Sanjith (19), a third-year college student, was attacked by three youths in Usilampatti.
The police said Sanjith of Pannaipatti was friendly with a girl from Nalluthevanpatti and had been chatting with her over the mobile phone. Ever since the girl’s younger brother came to know about this, he and his friends had been warning Sanjith against calling her.
On Tuesday, while Sanjith was riding his bike, the girl’s brother and his two friends, who were following him on another bike, rammed their vehicle into his bike.
As Sanjith managed to balance the bike and stopped, the trio attacked him. One of them punched him with a bike key, causing bleeding injuries to his head, cheek and ear.
