A two-month-old child has become one of the youngest patients in India to undergo a robot-assisted surgical procedure performed by a paediatric specialist, with doctors at Citizens Specialty Hospital in Nallagandla, Hyderabad, successfully completing a robotic pyeloplasty.
The procedure was performed Prabhu Karunakaran, consultant paediatric urologist, to correct a condition affecting the infant’s kidney and ureter and restore normal urine flow. The minimally invasive robotic procedure was performed instead of conventional open surgery, and the baby was discharged two days after the operation.
