Officials led by the Revenue Inspector for Minerals Balamurugan conducted vehicle checks on the Melur-Karaikudi four-lane highway in the Kattampur area near Thirukoshtiyur in Sivaganga district.
At that time, they intercepted and inspected two lorries carrying gravel soil toward the Kalayarkovil area via that route.
It was revealed that they were smuggling gravel soil using fake transit passes. Consequently, the minerals department officials seized both lorries and handed them over to the Thirukoshtiyur police station.
