Why it matters
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding road safety, traffic enforcement, and the dangers posed by heavy vehicle operations in urban areas.
Two persons, including a 56-year-old businessman, were killed in separate road accidents involving heavy vehicles in Balanagar and Miyapur on Thursday (October 8). While one was killed after a goods carrier transporting iron pipes overturned on him, the other died following a collision with a tipper lorry.
In the first incident, Prakash Pawar, 56, a resident of Shahpur Nagar who operated a gold-melting shop in Ameerpet, was killed when a goods carrier transporting iron pipes overturned near the Balanagar flyover around 2.30 p.m.
According to the police, Pawar was travelling to work on his scooter and was taking a U-turn beneath the flyover near pillar number 22, when the Ashok Leyland goods carrier overturned on him. Police said the vehicle was illegally overloaded, with iron pipes stacked unevenly, causing it to lose balance and overturn.
