Two jallikattu tamers were killed on Tuesday night when heavy iron rods fell from a lorry onto the motorcycle they were riding on the Madurai-Dindigul National Highway near Sholavandan.
The police identified the victims as Gopalakrishnan and Rahul, both residents of Sithlangudi. They were well-known local participants and had won prizes in various jallikattu events.
The incident occurred near Nagari when an unidentified lorry dropped heavy iron rods while in motion, striking the two men and killing them on the spot.
The Sholavandan police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies and sent them to the Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem examination.
