Two dead, several trapped in Kurla landslide in Mumbai

A landslide in the Kurla region of Mumbai has resulted in two deaths and left several people trapped under debris. Rescue operations involving the NDRF and BMC are currently underway at the site of the incident.

Two person were dead and one was injured after a landslide hit the Kurla region in Mumbai eastern suburb on Wednesday (August 12, 2026). At least six persons are reported to be trapped under the debris. Rescue operation is underway. NDRF personnel and 50 BMC personnels are carrying out the operation.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported this as a level II incident which occurred around 3:48 a.m. at Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, Near Rathod Medical in Kurla West. BMC Mayor Ritu Tawade has also reached the spot.
The two deceased are identified as Sohel Ansari (18) and Mohamad Ansari (14). Both were sent to Rajawadi Hospital. CMO Dr. Vishal declared Mohamad as brought dead, while Sohel sustained head injuries.
