Two-day vendor development programme-cum-exhibition begins in Virudhunagar
Virudhunagar district has launched a two-day vendor development exhibition to connect local MSME units with Central public sector units. The initiative aims to bridge the communication gap in procurement and boost the local economy.
Why it matters
Connecting small-scale enterprises with large government procurement chains is a key strategy for regional economic development and job creation.
Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra on Thursday inaugurated a vendor development programme-cum-industrial exhibition for Central public sector units and government departments in Virudhunagar.
Senior Scientist of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) centre at Mahendragiri, Narayanan Appu, was present at the inauguration of the exhibition organised by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that despite having a fireworks industry, garment industry and a good agricultural sector, Virudhunagar district continued to be economically backward due to its geographical location.
The district was rich in human resources, thanks to the number of educational institutions such as engineering colleges, arts and science colleges and ITIs. The district administration had been taking various steps, including conducting job fairs, to find the right jobs for youths in industrial houses.
