Two bridges complete coastal road link between Kollam and Koyilandy harbour

Two new bridges have been completed in Kerala, establishing a continuous coastal road link between Kollam and Koyilandy harbour. This project aims to provide local fisherfolk with direct access to the harbour while serving as an alternative route for small vehicles.
Why it matters
The infrastructure improvement enhances economic efficiency for local fishing communities and provides critical redundancy for coastal transportation.
The coastal road connecting Koyilandy harbour with Kollam Angadi has become a reality with the completion of two small bridges across the Cheriyathodu and Koothavallythodu (canals). The road will provide fisherfolk from Kollam, Arayankavu, and Gurukulam beach with direct access to Koyilandy harbour without having to use the national highway.
The bridges were constructed at a cost of ₹1.16 crore using funds from the Harbour Engineering department. The project was executed under the supervision of the Harbour Engineering Sub-Division Office, Koyilandy. A concrete carriageway was laid in view of the coastline’s vulnerability to sea erosion and tidal ingress.
The coastal route runs from Kollam beach road through Kollam beach, Arayankavu, Koothavally, Gurukulam beach, Valiyakath Palli, and Mayan beach to Koyilandy harbour.
