The deceased were identified as Balaji and Hari, both 13 years old and cousins from Chavutapalle and Mangasamudram villages in Chittoor Rural. They were studying in Class VI and VII at the local Municipal Corporation School in Vijayalakshmi Colony.
According to the police, the boys were reported missing around 4 p.m. Family members and local residents started searching for them and later found that they had reportedly fallen into the pond near Ramachandra Mission in the locality.
YSRCP Chittoor in-charge M. Vijayanandareddy, who reached the spot after learning about the incident, informed officials and joined the rescue effort. Locals pulled the two boys out of the water.
