The Konaje police on Friday, arrested two men on charges of robbing an elderly woman of a gold chain after assaulting her in their limits on August 3 and recovered the robbed item.
Police gave the names of the accused as Bala Subramanya, 49, resident of Matadakani-Urva and Shyam Kumar, 33, an autorickshaw owner and native of Thokkottu and currently residing near Bokkapatna Church, both in Mangaluru.
Bala Subramanya faces extortion cases in Bajpe, Mulki, Mangaluru East, Mangaluru North and Mangaluru Rural police stations.
Police said a 76 year-old woman noticed someone knocking on her door on August 3 and upon opening saw two unidentified persons asking for a rented house. Soon, they entered the house, threw her on the floor, assaulted her and robbed her of a gold chain and a bangle worth ₹3 lakh.
