Two arrested for robbing elderly woman on pretext of SIR in Udupi

The Udupi Town police arrested two persons on Saturday for allegedly robbing an elderly woman of her gold chain by posing as personnel involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
The police identified the accused as Vadiraj Ganiga, 44, of Puttur village in Udupi taluk and Sachin, 30, of Pudu village in Kaup taluk.
According to the complaint filed with the Udupi Town police by Shrikant Karanth, two men visited the house where his mother, Shanta Karanth, stayed alone, at 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday Claiming to be personnel involved in SIR, they handed over forms related to the exercise. When Ms. Shanta went inside the house to speak with her son, the accused entered and pushed her down. They snatched her gold chain, worth ₹4 lakh rupees, and fled from the scene.
