Two arrested for murder of elderly woman

Sivaganga police arrested a woman and her male friend near Singampunari for murdering an elderly woman and robbing her jewellery.
M. Poochiyammal, 70, a resident of Vadakkan Valavu in Surakkudi near Singampunari who was living along with her husband went missing on July 25 when she went out in the evening.
Meanwhile, she was found murdered in a canal near a government school the following day.
The S.V. Mangalam police registered a case and further investigations revealed that Saravanan and Chamundeeswari, 33, who had come from Chennai and were staying in Surakkudi, committed the murder out of greed for the jewellery. Consequently, the police arrested them.
Police said, “Chamundeeswari, a native of the Surakkudi area, lives in Chennai. After her husband died, she developed a relationship with Saravanan from Chennai. Recently, both of them came and stayed in Surakkudi.”
