The Annur town panchayat had carried out mosquito-control fogging around houses in the locality. Residents said smoke entered some houses during the operation.
Mohan, 65, and Rani alias Prema, 75, died subsequently. Some residents alleged that the pesticide used for fogging could have contributed to the deaths.
