In a tragic accident, twin one-year-old boys died after allegedly ingesting poison at Ozhuvathadam, near Adimaly, in Idukki on Friday night.
The police identified the dead as Ihan and Rehan, sons of Ozuvathadam resident Afsal and Sandra.
The parents and local people initially rushed the twins to a private hospital in Erumpupalam. As their condition deteriorated, they were moved to the Adimaly Taluk Hospital, where one child died within minutes of arrival. Though the other child was shifted to another private hospital, he too did not survive.
The preliminary findings indicate that the children accidentally ingested a pesticide, which is commonly used to control pests in cardamom plantations, according to District Police Chief K. V. Naseem.
