Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan affirmed that the TVK-led government will complete its full five-year term. He also expressed support for Rahul Gandhi as a potential Prime Ministerial candidate for 2029.
Why it matters
It highlights shifting political alliances and the stability of the current state government in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Higher Education P. Viswanathan (Congress) on Sunday (August 30, 2026), said the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will definitely complete its full term of five years.
All the five Congress party MLAs “with the blessings of the party leader Rahul Gandhi have extended their full assurance and support to the TVK government,” Mr. Viswanathan said in a brief interaction with reporters at the Tiruchi international airport.
The TVK government will surely last for five years and function in an excellent manner. Chief Minister Mr. Vijay will announce welfare schemes for the benefit of the people. There should be no doubt about that, Mr. Viswanathan said.
