Turkish, Somali forces rescue hijacked cargo ship after 10

Turkish naval forces and the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) carried out a joint operation to free a cargo ship that had been seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia, killing 14 pirates and destroying four of their boats, Somalia's Ministry of Defence said. The vessel, the MV Latuf, was hijacked on August 17 by pirates off Jifle, near the town of Eyl in Somalia's northeastern Nugaal region, according to a written statement from the ministry. The rescue operation lasted 10 days. Pirates abandoned ship under pressure Sustained pressure from the Turkish and Somali security forces eventually forced the remaining pirates to abandon the vessel, the ministry said. Security forces went on to take full control of the MV Latuf, which has since resumed its voyage safely. The ministry did not disclose further details on the nationality of the crew, the ship's cargo, or its intended destination.
