The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has ruled out negligence after damage was noticed to an idol of Lord Krishna atop the main gopuram of the Venkateswara temple, saying its staff had detected the damage in advance and initiated repairs.
The TTD said the massive gopuram housed hundreds of idols, some of which might require repairs after prolonged exposure to sun, air and rain. As part of the annual maintenance taken up ahead of the nine-day Brahmotsavams, the condition of the idols was inspected and those requiring attention were either repaired or replaced, it said.
