TTD refutes social media claims of agarbathi shortage

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has denied rumors of an agarbathi shortage during the Srivari Navaratri Brahmotsavams. Officials confirmed that production continues uninterrupted despite the expiration of a previous contract.
Why it matters
Clarifying misinformation regarding religious institutions is important for maintaining public trust and preventing unnecessary panic among devotees.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has clarified that there is no shortage of agarbathi packs for devotees during the ongoing Srivari Navaratri Brahmotsavams. It has described as “mischievous” a social media post claiming that the agarbathi manufacturing unit at its Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshanasala had been closed, resulting in a shortage.
In a statement, the TTD authorities said that 1.30 lakh packs of agarbathis were currently in stock.
The five-and-a-half-year contract with Bengaluru-based Darshan International had ended. However, it had been extended until October 31, 2026, to ensure an uninterrupted supply. Production had continued under the company’s supervision from October 1, with the same workers, the statement said.
