Trump warns of return to ‘strong military action’ if Iran diplomacy fails

President Donald Trump has threatened a return to military action against Iran if current diplomatic efforts fail to resolve the ongoing regional crisis. Meanwhile, Iran denies direct negotiations with the U.S., even as regional mediators work to prevent further escalation.
Why it matters
The potential for renewed military conflict in the Middle East poses significant risks to regional stability and the global economy, particularly regarding shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
US president Donald Trump has once again warned that the US will return to “strong military action” against Iran if diplomatic efforts do not bring a rapid resolution to the crisis in the Middle East.
“We are in very deep talks to Iran. If they don’t work out, we will go back to very strong military action,” the US president told Axios on Monday. Asked for how long he would allow the talks to proceed, he answered: “Not much time. Either it goes fast or not at all.”
Earlier, Tehran said there were no direct talks to the US to end the conflict, which began in late February with a wave of US-Israeli strikes and has rocked the region and the global economy.
