Trump says Musk restored Ukraine's Starlink service

Ukraine reports ongoing signal issues with the Starshield military satellite service despite claims from President Trump that Elon Musk had restored full access. The situation remains unclear as the Pentagon denies directing any changes to the service, amid rising tensions between Washington and Kyiv.
Why it matters
The reliability of satellite communications is vital for Ukraine's defense, and the involvement of private tech leaders in geopolitical conflicts raises questions about corporate influence in warfare.
Ukraine has said that it was still having problems using the Starshield military communications service, a day after US President Donald Trump said tech titan Elon Musk had restored access.
"As of this morning, instances of signal loss are still being observed," a source in the defence ministry told reporters.
"There is currently no confirmation that the restrictions have been lifted."
Mr Trump said yesterday that Starshield was "back", following a Wall Street Journal report that the president had asked Musk to restore the service vital to Kyiv's forces.
The Journal reported earlier this week that Mr Musk had capped the speed at which Ukrainian equipment could connect to the system, making some Ukrainian drones useless.
