Trump formally replaces ‘Artificial Intelligence’ with ’Super Intelligence’ in an executive order

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued an executive order mandating that federal agencies replace the term 'Artificial Intelligence' with 'Super Intelligence' in all official communications. The administration argues the new term better reflects the rapid advancement and potential of these technologies.
Why it matters
This change in nomenclature signals a shift in how the U.S. government frames the narrative around AI, potentially influencing global policy discourse and corporate branding.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (September 29, 2026) signed an executive order directing executive departments and agencies to begin using ‘Super Intelligence’ and ‘SI’ in place of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI.’
While the U.S. President mulled over the idea for around a week, an executive order now means that the new terminology will have to be formally defined and adopted across the relevant U.S. government offices and departments.
Mr. Trump claimed that the change was appropriate when taking into consideration the “promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities” of AI technologies.
The AI-to-SI update is set to apply to official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory documents, per the executive order.
U.S. diplomats have been instructed to make the change in their communications and official correspondence, reported AP.
