US President Donald Trump has escalated his trade war against Canada, banning imports of alcohol and various products and raising tariffs on others, as the conflict shows no sign of abating.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stood firm, acknowledging that reducing economic ties with the United States would come at a cost but saying the benefits would outweigh the pain.
A range of Canadian products, from mattresses to motorboats and golf carts, will be subject to a 50% surcharge from September 15, according to Trump’s executive order issued late on Tuesday (Wednesday NZ).
