Trump announces leadership of AI task force

President Trump has announced a new 'Super Intelligence Force' to oversee AI development and ensure American leadership in the sector. The task force, led by high-ranking officials, will coordinate government engagement with AI companies and public interest groups.
Why it matters
The formation of this task force signals a shift toward centralized government oversight of AI, prioritizing economic and geopolitical competition over strict regulation.
President Donald Trump on Sunday announced the leadership and duties of a “Super Intelligence Force,” which he said will “ensure that America continues to lead the world” when it comes to artificial intelligence. The president said in his announcement on Truth Social that the task force will “protect the interests” and “improve the lives” of Americans. He said it will coordinate the government’s engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, infrastructure providers and AI companies. The group will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor. The task force will report to Trump and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, the president said.
