Treasury lifts funding freeze for 42 municipalities
The South African National Treasury has lifted a funding freeze on 42 municipalities after they addressed financial mismanagement concerns. While some received full allocations, others were granted funds specifically to settle outstanding debts with utility and pension providers.

JOHANNESBURG - Forty-two of the 69 municipalities whose funding was temporarily withheld by the National Treasury earlier this month have been taken off the "naughty list".
They will now receive all or part of their July equitable share after addressing the concerns that led to their funding being withheld.
Ten municipalities have received their full allocations, amounting to R1.7 billion.
