Transition from Dinosaurs to the Streets of the USA, by Owei Lakemfa

A shooting incident involving ICE agents in New York City has sparked public outrage and protests. The event occurred during an enforcement operation against a migrant, leading to calls from local leadership to remove ICE from city operations.
Why it matters
The incident underscores the intense friction between federal immigration enforcement and local municipal policies in the United States.
Layer 1 I try to understand countries by pounding their streets. This was partly why, early Monday morning, October 5, 2026, I hit the streets of New York. How early do people wake up in a city that never sleeps? What is the rush hour like? This day, what attracted me most were children going to school. A man appears with a child sitting on his neck, feet wrapped around it, and clutching his head. I thought this was dangerous. Another approaches, singing loudly, with a child running by his side. Then, a lady dashes across the road with two children following closely to catch a bus. Also, there is the kindergartner weeping as the mother drags him to school. Yes, education is the key to the future, but these children do not know that yet.
