Former soldiers in Darwin say it is heartbreaking that another Australian Defence Force member has been killed while training in the Northern Territory following the death of Corporal Brendan Hannam.
The veterans say conditions at Mount Bundey Training Area are extremely challenging, but they need to be for training to be realistic.
The Australia Defence Association says getting the balance right between making training safer and properly preparing soldiers for active duty is "a very, very difficult equation".
