Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday participated in a review meeting on the SIR for the erstwhile Nizamabad district and stressed the need to safeguard voting rights of all eligible citizens.
Addressing the meeting in Nizamabad, Mr. Goud alleged that the BJP-led Union government was weakening constitutional institutions.
Stating that the primary objective of Congress was to protect every citizen’s right to vote, Mr. Goud said voting rights formed the foundation of democracy and that every vote was valuable.
Recalling former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s role in strengthening democracy by extending voting rights to the 18-year-old, he said measures that ensured wider participation in the electoral process had reinforced democratic values.
