Tories pledge new 'Britannia Shield' UK air defence system

The UK Conservative Party has pledged £10bn over a decade to develop the 'Britannia Shield,' an integrated air defense system inspired by Israel's Iron Dome. The project aims to protect critical infrastructure from modern threats like drones and missiles, though party leadership has clarified it will be a unique design rather than a direct replica.

The Conservatives have pledged to invest £10bn in a British defence system, if they win the next general election, which is inspired by Israel's Iron Dome air defence system.
The party said the "Britannia Shield" would offer the UK an integrated network of radar, command and control systems, as well as interceptor missiles.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said it would help protect the country against a "new type of warfare" that could see drones and missiles attacking critical national infrastructure.
Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said the Tories had an "abysmal record" of defending Britain during their 14 years in power, adding: "They owe Britain an apology, not another lecture."
