Tooro PM calls for gov’t guidance amid succession row
The Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom has requested government guidance to manage a succession dispute following the death of the Omukama. The kingdom is divided between a newly proclaimed king and the wishes expressed in the late king's will.

Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire has appealed to the Government of Uganda to provide guidance and support to maintain peace and order as a dispute over the succession to the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV deepens.
Rwomiire said the government should help create conditions for the relevant cultural, legal and institutional processes to take place peacefully and fairly, but should not choose the next king for Tooro.
The Prime Minister appealed in a statement issued on September 10, two days before Oyo’s burial and a day after the Babiito royal clan announced Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the new Omukama.
“This is not a request for the Government to choose a King for Tooro. It is an appeal to help protect the conditions within which the relevant cultural, legal and institutional processes can take place peacefully, fairly and without intimidation or disorder,” Rwomiire said.
