‘Toofan Eyes’ to track drug peddlers near schools in Keralam, says Ramesh Chennithala

Anyone entering the State to sell drugs will come under the watch of the ‘Toofan Eyes’, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said on Thursday, announcing a CCTV-based surveillance system around schools as part of the anti-drug campaign ‘Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt’.

Inaugurating the Toofan Jagratha awareness march and public meeting organised by the Thrissur City and Rural police, the Minister said Operation Toofan had evolved from a police initiative into a mass movement involving people across Keralam.

The Toofan Eye system will strengthen surveillance around schools and help identify drug networks operating near educational institutions, he said. International drug syndicates were increasingly targeting school and college campuses, while authorities had also detected instances of narcotics being supplied to children in the form of sweets, he said.
