Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) sought the intervention of the Director General of Police, West Bengal, to look into allegations of illegal detention of a 66-year-old resident of Uttar Dinajpur district on suspicion of being a Bangladeshi national.
Mr. Islam, a Rajya Sabha MP, said that Jalil Akhtar was picked up on June 19 on allegations of being a Bangladeshi national and has been detained since then.
