TISS names new chief guest weeks after CJI visit sparked 'protest fears'
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has appointed a new chief guest for its convocation after abruptly postponing the event, which was originally set to feature the Chief Justice of India. Students suspect the postponement was due to fears of protests, leading to financial losses for attendees.
MUMBAI: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has invited Dr C S Pramesh, director, Tata Memorial Hospital, as the chief guest for its 86th convocation, which will now be held on Aug 22.The convocation, which was originally scheduled for Aug 2, was abruptly postponed two days before the event. The students got an email post midnight announcing the postponement of the event. CJI Justice Surya Kant was scheduled to be the chief guest at the earlier ceremony. While TISS had cited ‘unforeseen circumstances’ for the postponement, some students claimed that apprehensions over a possible protest linked to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) during CJI’s visit may have prompted the decision.Hundreds of students, who had travelled to Mumbai or were on their way to the city with their parents and relatives, were upset about the financial losses they incurred on travel and accommodation in Mumbai due to the cancellation. They claimed that many bookings were non-refundable or involved substantial cancellation charges. The institute had assured students that claims towards eligible travel and accommodation expenses incurred due to the postponement would be reimbursed. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Mumbai | Silver Rate in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai | Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Petrol Price in Mumbai | Diesel Price in Mumbai | CNG Price in Mumbai | LPG Price in MumbaiStay updated with the latest Mumbai news.
