‘TIRUPEX 2026’ releases special postal covers celebrating Tirumala’s heritage

India Post has released special postal covers featuring iconic Tirumala heritage sites during the 'TIRUPEX-2026' philatelic exhibition. The event aims to promote philately among youth as a way to engage with national history and culture.
Why it matters
Cultural preservation through philately helps maintain historical awareness and provides educational engagement for younger generations.
Tirumala’s landmark locations such as Ananda Nilayam, Srivari Padalu, Japali Theertham and Akasa Ganga Theertham, came to life on Wednesday when the India Post released special covers featuring them.
The special postal covers were released by TTD’s Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) Chairman C. Divakar Reddy and Post Master General (Kurnool region) Vennam Upender at ‘TIRUPEX-2026’, the Tirupati district-level philatelic exhibition, which got off to a colourful start at Gollavanigunta in the city.
Mr. Chowdary said that philately means more than merely collecting stamps, as it is also about learning a country’s history, traditions, heritage and culture. He hailed India Post’s move to popularise the sacred water spots (Theerthams) atop Tirumala hills in the form of special covers and introducing them to the current generation. Mr. Divakar Reddy, meanwhile, offered to sponsor the special cover on Japali Theertham.
