Tirunelveli reader’s mail

A reader's letter highlights infrastructure and public service concerns in Tirunelveli, including the neglect of a Gandhi statue and the need for better healthcare and transport facilities. The author calls on local authorities to address these issues to improve urban living standards.
Why it matters
Public feedback on civic amenities is essential for the success of urban development initiatives like the Smart City project.
On Gandhi Jayanti, members of Lions Club garlanded the historic Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the Tirunelveli district collectorate. At the time, it was concerning to find the statue in an isolated location, neglected, surrounded by litter and dried-up and unattended plant saplings. In addition, the collectorate premises lack designated parking facilities for visitors and the uneven ground poses a safety hazard for senior citizens. Refreshment options are also limited to a single kiosk and bicycle vendor on working days.
For a city designated under the Smart City initiative, the Tirunelveli collectorate premises fall short of modern standards. Will the authorities look into addressing these infrastructure and cleanliness issues to make the campus more visitor friendly?
