Residents and road users face severe hardships due to the ongoing underground drainage system project in Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai. While infrastructure development is welcome, the current execution has turned the roads into a safety hazard. Major stretches have been dug up using heavy machinery to lay pipelines and only loosely filled with sand. As the roads have not been re-laid with asphalt, they have turned into dust bowls, severely reducing visibility and causing respiratory discomfort to residents. The loose gravel and uneven surface have made it difficult for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians to navigate the road safely. Minor accidents and skidding have unfortunately become a daily occurrence. The Corporation and relevant authorities are urged to swiftly relay the damaged roads with asphalt as soon as pipeline installation is completed in each sector.
