The Tirunelveli Corporation has slapped the fine of ₹ 6 lakh on a contract firm after structural flaws and cracks were found in the under-construction urban health centre on the District Collectorate premises.

According to Tirunelveli Corporation Commissioner Monika Rana, the Corporation planned to create the urban health centre at the cost of ₹1.20 crore and identified two sites for this purpose. After these sites were found to be unfit for construction activities, it was decided in a review meeting chaired by the then District Collector on October 4, 2024 to establish the urban health centre on the District Collectorate premises.

After removing the trees on the sites selected for urban health centre with due permission, construction was started on June 3, 2025 with R.R. Builders, the contract firm.
