Tiruchi faces short supply of Aavin milk

Tiruchi is experiencing a shortage of Aavin milk, with supply to dealers cut by 10% to 15% since July. The state-owned cooperative cites reduced procurement due to dry weather as the primary cause for the supply disruption.
Why it matters
The shortage impacts local consumers and small business owners who rely on the state-run cooperative for affordable and trusted dairy products.
Tiruchi is facing shortage of Aavin milk, which is being supplied by Tiruchi District Cooperative Milk Producers Union.
Milk supplied by Aavin is the most preferred by residents of Tiruchi. Since it is processed and marketed by State-owned Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation, consumers repose faith in Aavin milk. In addition to its own retail outlets in Tiruchi, the Tiruchi District Cooperative Milk Producers Union markets the milk sachets through agents. They supply milk to its card holders and distribute to milk parlours, departmental stores, hospitals and grocery stores.
According to sources, Aavin has about 400 dealers/agents in different parts of Tiruchi. It has also instituted a network of agents in Manapparai, Lalgudi, Musiri, Thottiam and others areas. They supply milk twice a day, both in the morning and evening. Though there were no major issues in milk supply until June, the dealers have faced shortage since July.
