Tiruchi Corporation boosts source segregation to improve waste management
Tiruchi Corporation is intensifying efforts to improve solid waste management by enforcing source segregation across residential and commercial sectors. The city has outsourced waste operations to a private agency and is utilizing new recovery facilities to process daily waste.

Tiruchi Corporation has stepped up efforts to ensure effective segregation of solid waste at source across residential and commercial establishments as part of its efforts to improve sanitation.
The Corporation has outsourced the collection, segregation, transportation, and processing of waste generated in all 65 wards in the city to a private agency. On an average, the city generates about 470 tonnes of waste daily. About 70% of the garbage is segregated at source, according to officials.
Households, shops, hotels, offices, and other institutions have been instructed to segregate waste into wet waste, dry waste, sanitation waste, and special-care waste categories before handing it over to sanitation workers.
