Tiruchi airport handles over 20 tonnes of domestic cargo in over one month

Tiruchi International Airport has successfully processed over 20 tonnes of domestic cargo within its first month of operation. The facility, which primarily handles outbound auto parts and fabric, aims to streamline logistics for local businesses by connecting them directly to major Indian hubs.
Why it matters
This development improves regional supply chain efficiency in Tamil Nadu, reducing reliance on secondary transit hubs for domestic goods.
More than a month after domestic cargo movement was launched, the Tiruchi international airport has handled over 20 tonnes of outbound and inbound commodities. The outbound domestic cargo movement has been higher compared to inbound commodities. The outbound cargo has been lifted by private carriers operating flights from Tiruchi airport to Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.
Domestic cargo movement from this non-metro airport took off in late August this year following clearance granted by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, an independent department under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, in order to provide local businesses a faster channel to transport goods to major domestic hubs in the country without having to rely on cargo routed through other airports.
