TikTok is calling US staffers back to the office 5 days a week, starting next month
TikTok is mandating that its US employees return to the office five days a week starting in September. This move aligns the company with other major tech firms like Amazon and Instagram that are moving away from hybrid work models.
Why it matters
It reflects a broader trend in the tech industry where companies are increasingly enforcing strict return-to-office policies, challenging the flexible work norms established during the pandemic.

The five-day RTO rule mirrors similar requirements at competitors like Instagram and Amazon. TikTok's US business is partly run through a joint venture that includes its parent, ByteDance, and investors like Oracle. TikTok is summoning its workers back to their desks full time. TikTok said that, starting in September, it will require most US employees to return to the office five days a week, three staffers told Business Insider. The in-office mandate will shake up schedules for some hybrid workers who are currently allowed to work from home at least one day a week. Other teams already have five-day RTO. For example, members of TikTok's e-commerce division, TikTok Shop , have been coming in every day for more than a year.
