(Nairobi, Kenya) — The TPLF led Tigray Regional Government issued an official statement alleging that full-scale military conflict has resumed across the region, accusing the ruling Prosperity Party of launching a coordinated offensive along the eastern corridor bordering the Afar Region.
According to the official communique released from Mekelle on Saturday, regional authorities reported that armed clashes commenced early in the morning, describing the military push as an “escalation aimed at subjugating Tigray’s regional autonomy.”
The United States and European Union , among others, have been undertaking diplomatic efforts to avert another conflict in the Tigray region, which they fear could spill over to other parts of the region.
Regional authorities alleged that federal forces have persistently sought “to weaken Tigray’s administrative structures and military capabilities despite existing peace frameworks.”
