Thuvakkam to give old school benches a fresh look
The NGO Thuvakkam is launching an initiative to clean and repaint old school benches in government institutions across Chennai. They are currently seeking volunteers to assist with the project, which aims to improve the learning environment for students.
Why it matters
Community-led initiatives can significantly improve the physical infrastructure of underfunded public schools.
Grime, pencil and pen marks and splatter of paints on school benches are more than a visual eyesore. Their appearance can affect the learning environment in a classroom.
Thuvakkam is starting “School Benches Revamp – Paint with Purpose” initiative to transform old and faded school benches into bright and welcoming furniture for students. They are looking for volunteers who are willing to clean and paint benches in government and government-aided institutions across Chennai. Paint and other supplies needed to spruce up the classroom benches will be provided by the NGO.
