Why it matters
The incident highlights the persistent public safety risks posed by the use of abrasive, glass-coated kite strings in urban areas.
A young man died after a kite 'manja' (thread) slit his throat in Belagavi on October 1.
Dhruva Santosh Karjagi (19) was driving his bike from the city centre towards his home in Mahantesh Nagar. The abrasive string of a kite got entangled around his neck while he was riding over the National Highway bridge in the Gandhi Nagar area.
The thread slit his throat, causing profuse bleeding. He fell down, and died on the spot.
A case has been registered at the Belagavi North Traffic Police Station.
