Three suspects arrested in Uganda over Dr Victoria Mutiso’s murder detained for 30 days

Three men arrested in Uganda in connection with the murder of psychiatrist Dr Victoria Mutiso have been detained for 30 days as detectives seek more time to complete investigations into the killing. Police Constable Kiplangat Bett, Pius Muiru Mbugua and Samuel Karanja Gathoni were arraigned before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Teresia Nyangena, where the prosecution successfully applied to have them held in custody pending further investigations. The prosecution told the court that the three became fugitives in Uganda after Dr Mutiso was shot dead on July 29, 2026, in Kilimani, Nairobi County. The State said Gathoni was arrested in Uganda and initially charged with being unlawfully present in the country before Ugandan authorities issued a deportation order against him. The prosecution argued that investigators required additional time to establish the circumstances surrounding Dr Mutiso’s killing and to complete other outstanding inquiries before making a final decision on the case.
